A group of colleagues all working on diverse sectors with and in indigenous communities shared a common desire to connect and share learnings, resources and perspectives.
We began with a growing e-mail list where we would come together to share. We then created a LinkedIn group in 2008 in order to create more spaces and opportunities for others interested in connecting.
For the next ten years of so, the community continue to grow and become even more engaged on LinkedIn. Community members shared resources, job opportunities, supported each others' initiatives, shared grant opportunities and much more.
Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter) were added as additional mediums for communication and community.
The Global Indigenous Network also began to co-sponsor in-person and virtual programmes, conferences and other activities.
With the launch of this website, the Global Indigenous Network hopes to further expand access to resources and the community globally. We are creating additional streams of resources and will expand our activities. Our goal is to identify some streams of resources so that we can continue to offer resources and connections to our global community at no-cost.
